Busy week

I received a lovely chatty email yesterday from my UK swap partner, and she* inspired me to get outside and get photographing the stuff I have been making over the pat couple of weeks. So I found a nice shrub in the garden to use as a backdrop for the DPN holder I sewed last week.

As usual, there's a saga. I decided to sew a few projects, so I chose my fabrics, washed and ironed them, and cut out all the pieces for three projects. Found matching threads, set up the sewing machine.... and it's broken! It keeps "skipping" a stitch and then the thread gets all tangled up in a big clump. So far I can't find anywhere local to get it serviced either, so I may have to pay to have it shipped back to the manufacturer - and this thing is HEAVY.

Anyway, I digress. The long and short of it is that I ended up sewing two of those projects by hand, and the other is still awaiting my attention. One of the projects I sewed was a little bag for carrying my current knitting work in progress - the portable project is usually socks, mittens, wristwarmers, or something else small. The problem is that I took it out with me to knit during a meeting this morning and between collecting together two small children, a change bag, a handbag, and other assorted child-related gubbins, I left it behind. Ack. So no photos of that until I get it back.

That leaves one lonely project to show you - and fortunately I have it right here! I used the crochet hook case pattern available from the Craft Magazine pattern podcast, and of course forged on ahead without checking the dimensions. Needless to say my crochet hooks are too long to fit in it, as are half my DPN's. However, if all you have is Brittany Birch DPN's, they'll fit just fine! (But their crochet hooks won't!)

Anyway on to the pictures.

I followed the pattern as written - it is very simple and quick to make, although of course it took me longer because I hand sewed everything (and also because I ran out of bias binding halfway through, and had to go and buy more!)
I find the main fabric pretty but a little dull, so I chose to line it with a hot pink fabric to spice it up a little. If I were to make it over again I would make it just a little bit taller to accommodate the other brands of double pointed needles that I have. Other than that, I am fairly pleased with it!

*please excuse the assumption that my swap partner (anonymous) is female. As far as I can see, all the names on the swap list are female - I apologise profusely if there is a man or men in there I haven't noticed!
