So the first sock is finished almost to the top of the cuff. And on the first pattern row after the heel, I made a major mistake. The pattern is stacked exactly above the one below rather than stacked - I'm half a patttern repeat out.
So do I rip out the entire cuff and start again? I couldn't bring myself to do it yet so instead I started the second sock. All was well until I got to the heel. Finished the heel turn fine - but somehow, at the end of the heel flap, I have two more gusset stitches left on one side than on the other. And even after frogging back all the way to the heel turn, the stitch count is still out by one. Which has me totally stumped, because I checked it twice before I started the short rows, and I can't see where the mistake is.
So now I have two half finished socks and a mess of kinky, frogged yarn. Ack! I can't even bring myself to take a picture of this mess. Maybe later.
My husband actually asked me last night why ripping out knitting is called "frogging". Muggle. Honestly, you'd think he'd know by now.
(For the other muggles and the uninitiated out there, it's because of the noise a frog makes. Rip-it, rip-it...)
So I am taking my children to the Angus agricultural show today to escape from the sock trauma. Maybe there will be some nice fibre for sale... hmm retail therapy.............
